Toys are a fun and integral part of every child's development. Nowadays children are surrounded by piles of toys, but, will these toys make them happy? Recent studies shows that kids are actually happier with fewer toys.

In fact, having too many toys will make a child get confused a lot because he does not know what he likes or dislikes the most, and he rarely learn to fully appreciate the toy in front of him. He isn't actually playing with all this stuff.

What should daddy and mommy do to prevent too many toys?

How many toys should parents give to a child? The American Virginia scholar thinks it should be five. The reason being when there are less than 5 toys, the child may have inferiority complex; but if the number is more than 5, the child is prone to distraction and it can limit his creativity.

Some suggested toys which are beneficial to child's growth include:

1、Assembled toys (Building blocks, Snowflake toys)

2、Sport toys (Small ball, Toy cart)

3、Doodle toy (Crayon, colored paper)

4、Plush toys (Rag doll, teddy bear)

5、Child-sized musical instruments (toy drum, toy piano)

Remember: Less is more. Kids do not need a bazillion toys to be happy. More is not always better. Every toy was supposed to encourage child development. Every one was designed to be "educational" to help unleash their inner creative genius. It's important for children to focus on the toys they like - to learn, study, ponder, think and create a variety of new ways of playing. In this case, the value of the toys can be maximized to the great extent.

Bear in mind that when choosing a toy, parent should also consider its safety. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) closely monitors and regulates toys. Any toys made in — or imported into — the United States after 1995 must follow CPSC standards.

Here are some general guidelines to keep in mind when shopping for toys:

• Toys made of fabric should be labeled as flame resistant or flame retardant.
• Stuffed toys should be washable.
• Painted toys must use lead-free paint.
• Art materials should say nontoxic.
• Crayons and paints should say ASTM D-4236 on the package, which means that they've been evaluated by the American Society for Testing and Materials.
